in2 Fleet launches car and van servicing for the consumer
in2 Fleet have announced the launch of their Car and Van Servicing Management product for consumers.
Aaron Brown, in2 Fleet Managing Director, said: "The in2 Servicing product is an extension of the in2 Grey Fleet Management product currently supporting company car drivers in opt-out vehicles. Offering our expertise to the consumer, in2 Fleet hope their in2 Servicing product will help the general public get a fairer deal from the UK's garage network. In particular, ladies and more senior drivers who may find it difficult to negotiate with garages or deal with the confrontation of remaining in control of their vehicle repair bills. in2 Fleet's engineers will use their industry expertise and skill to ensure as 'poachers turned gamekeepers' that only actual repairs are authorised on vehicles and that a professional process is managed to the benefit of the consumer. Busy professionals will also greatly benefit from the service by allowing in2 Fleet to take away the hassle factor allowing the driver more time to focus on their busy work schedule."
With a national network of approved repairers available providing FREE collection and delivery of the customers vehicle and a FREE wash and vac after the service is completed, in2 Fleet are providing a convenience to the consumer whilst ensuring their repair bills reflect the accuracy of the work required at a fair price for the consumer and the garage network together. The entire garage UK national garage network at in2 Fleet's disposal operate to very high repair standards having committed to a rigorous compliance agreement that protects the vehicle's warranty and objectively exploits the block exemption ruling. The commitments required by the consumer to make the whole process operate smoothly are not onerous at all. Basically, the consumer must leave the keys at the agreed collection point, leave the service book in the glove box and ensure they are contactable on the day for any additional or safety related work over that of the scheduled service.
Aaron Brown commented further, "I'm convinced our new business to customer consumers will be delighted with the hassle free and cost-effective service".
EU to encourage quality tyre use
The amount of information provided to dealers on tyre labelling and marketing materials is to increase.
A new European Union regulation will insist that by November 2012, tyres must be graded by their fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise performance, with the information displayed at the point of sale and on technical promotional literature, said a European Commission communiqué.
The aim is to encourage consumers to demand higher quality tyres, which though more expensive, will save money through fuel consumption.
Drivers warned not to fall for CPC exemption card scam
The Vehicle Operator Service Agency and the Driving Standards Agency are advising drivers that they do not need to buy a card to prove they are exempt from Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) regulations. The so-called ‘Driver Qualification Exemption Card' or DQEC is being sold on the internet for £49.
The warning comes as CPC rules are due to come into force for Large Goods Vehicles drivers from 10 September.
VOSA's Traffic Enforcement Policy spokesman Peter McIntyre says: "Our enforcement officers would not use this card to check driver exemption as it has no legal validity. We don't want drivers to be spending money on something they don't need."
Under the current rules drivers who gain their initial Driver CPC after 10 September 2008 Public Goods Vehicles (PGV) or 10 September 2009 Large Goods Vehicles (LGV) are required to complete four modules before they can receive their Driver Qualification Card which they must keep with their driving licence. To retain the Driver CPC, 35 hours of periodic training must then be completed within a 5-year period, and every subsequent 5 year period.
Drivers who had LGV or PCV entitlement on their driving licence at the implementation dates will need to complete 35 hours of training within five years of the implementation date to receive their Driver CPC qualification card and then complete 35 hours of training every subsequent five years, if they wish to continue to drive professionally.
Such training could include courses in subjects such as Disability Awareness, Tachograph Regulations and Safe and Fuel-Efficient Driving.

VOSA study
"A study by the Vehicle and Operators Services Agency (VOSA) has shown a 44.7% MOT failure rate for vans weighing between 3,000Kg and 3,500Kg, compared with 35.2% for cars and small vans."

VOSA powers
"Vehicle Operators Services Agency (VOSA) examiners now have powers to issue fixed penalties to drivers for defects at roadside enforcement inspections. Previously, only police officers had this authority.
Many defects can be picked up in daily walk round checks. Foreign drivers breaking the regulations who are unable to provide an acceptable UK address will need to pay a deposit at roadside. VOSA inspectors could immobilise the vehicle until a deposit is paid. There's a graduated fixed penalty scheme for different offences. Offences now covered by this scheme include drivers' hours, overloading and failing to provide evidence of Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)."
